Barbara Brown Conrod has been making and exhibiting artwork for over 30 years. Her first public commercial exhibition was in British Columbia in 1986. She works primarily in oil and watercolour painting but has experience in drawing, intaglio, sculpture and encaustic painting. Barbara has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Certificate in Computer Graphics from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Born in Halifax, she now makes the village of Port Williams, in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia her home.

She began her studies in art at Acadia University, studied watercolour at the Worcester Museum, Massachusetts, USA. Later graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1990. Since then Barbara has taken etching at St. Francis Xavier University as well as taking many painting workshops, in watercolour, acrylic and encaustic.  She has participated in numerous group shows and has had several solo exhibitions of her artwork in Halifax, Antigonish, and New Glasgow.

Brown Conrod began painting in watercolour prior to her academic training and returns to that medium during the summer months. Working out of doors, she takes advantage of Nova Scotia’s scenic coastal landscape with its clusters of small communities as a source of inspiration. There is a fresh, spontaneous exuberance that travels across her light-filled landscapes.
